It is possible to travel by Eurostar from Waterloo (change at Lille) to Bordeaux and then get a connecting train to St Astier where you can walk to the house (approx 8 hours).

The TGV can be picked up at Libourne (45 minutes from the house).  This connects with the Eurostar at Paris or Lille.

Express trains from Perigueux to Paris run several times a day.

Skiing is closest in the massif central but also available in the Pyrenees about two and half hours away (likewise Biarritz and the north Spanish coast).

By train St Astier is ten minutes to the medieval city of Perigueux and an hour in the other direction to Bordeaux.
